Farming out of Burkeville, VA, Kendel and Emily have been working with us since our very first day in business and we have been able to grow together since 2017. Farming entirely with 2 Percheron draft horses- Charlie and Bob- Whippoorwill is a year-round supplier of incredible produce, eggs and meats. Inspired by the writings of Wendell Berry and the Guerrilla Gardening movement, Whippoorwill Farm focus on all-season, whole-diet, holistic farming rather than cheffy “specialist” products. Their weekly delivery is always diverse, abundant and bursting with life. Their sweet potatoes and storage crops stock our pantry during winter, while other eggs pale in comparison to the golden orbs of joy from their happy chickens. You can join their csa here.
Tomten Farm is run by Brian and Autumn in Prince Edward County, Virginia, with 2.5 acres dedicated to annual vegetable production. Tomten Farm offers a beautiful and ever-expanding range of organically-grown produce; we especially enjoy their chicories and other Italian heirlooms, winter radishes and amazing range of peppers in the summer. We love working with Autumn and Brian because they are truly as passionate about cooking and eating delicious food as they are about growing it cleanly and sustainably. You can catch them weekly at the Birdhouse Farmers Market on Tuesdays and the South Of the James market on Saturdays during spring to fall season. Join their csa here.
Betsy & Chris are inspirations to us, having built a holistic and closed-circle farm from permaculture principles to sustain themselves and feed their community. While not very frequent purveyors to us- their vegetable production has switched mostly to seed production over the last few years- we look forward to a few annual deliveries from Peacemeal- several bushels of sunchokes come in February, and around May-time Betsy forages pounds and pounds of spruce tips for us from the trees around the farm. We are also proud owners of a sheepskin rug cured by Betsy from the fleece of a mutton animal we cooked last year.
Founded in 2008, Agriberry Fruit Farm is owned and operated by the Geyer family–Anne and Chuck Geyer, and their children, Pierson and Colleen Geyer. The Geyers grow fruit, including raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, cherries, peaches, nectarines, plums and apples on 25 acres of land in Hanover, Virginia, about 30 minutes northeast of Richmond. The Geyers grow their strawberries on land in Mosley, Virginia, which is south of Richmond in Chesterfield County. The Geyers operate a “full disclosure” farm. While the source and variety of fruit varies each season, Agriberry provides information on the location and farming practices of their long-time farm partners.
Located in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, Wade's Mill (c.1750) is a working water powered grist mill listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Elisha and Elizabeth Somerville are the dreamers, builders, and growers of Gobble-Berry Farmstead. Growing great-tasting food with dense nutrition is their passion. Making food like this available to their community is their calling.
Research. Experimentation. Testing, more testing. NCRF is a small gourmet mushroom farm in Richmond, Virginia. Jacin and Katie have been growing mushrooms together since 2016 and take pride in producing beautiful, delicious mushrooms, picked and delivered fresh. When they're not growing mushrooms they like to spend their time exploring the great outdoors of Virginia and seeing how mycelium holds it all together.
